At Union City with Amory. Went hunting in afternoon. Am got a teal. Took boat in evening for home and cam in at 2:30 A.M. Went to show in the eve. Received some mail Dated Dec. 24 & 31 from R.M.

Went to school early for Mandolin practice. Saw Broadway lose in the BB game with Lincoln. 33-27. Went to Dr’s and let H20 out of car, stayed for supper. Went up to the Dr’s in eve and met Marie. Home 10:00 P.M.

Went with Am and bought crank for Winton $2.75. Got car started after a little trouble and found out that “Jack” shaft was broken. Tried car out on 3rd and found steering gear a little out, bought 5 gal gas 80¢. Am paid it. Went to Dr. in eve but not home so went to show with Am. 11:30.

Got up rather late and did a little school work. We gave dinner and had Myrtle, Geo, Gladys and Mrs. Huey up. We had some music and dancing and then went up to movies. Took M. home and then went to Bakers and let H20 out. T.I. 12:00 PM (think he means AM)

Got up early with Am and took B’s car to shop. Put new tire on rt. front wheel and car was out at 6:30. We all went out after. I took Maud and Marian to the show. Got home about 11PM

Went to school all day as usual suit (?). Saw all teachers in mooring and got out of all exams. Mr. Kelian did not like to let me out at first. Took train for Chehalis after going to Tacoma on Interlaken. In Chehalis 8:40 Wrote L. to RM and ECM.

We took Ford from St. Helen’s to Mr. Salzer’s place 18 mi. out. We then made a line to the river from the Willamette Meridian. Came home very wet and turned in at 9:30.

Got up a 7:00 had breakfast, then ran sight line to the river again and across to Centralia line. Got very wet and came back to W.G. Meridian and built fire and had dinner. So wet we had to quit. (4:30) Turned in after the school teacher read to all. 9:40.

Ran line to river and then came back and ran line up past barn where we had our lunch at the shack. Continued line to quarter corner and quit. In Eve. did a little figuring about river line then turned in late at 10:20.

Got out early and ran line to river as we figured it out. It came out fine and we continued it to the Centralia line. Our last station was 27. Walked home and turned in at 9:30.

Ran line from W.G.M. to Hages barn and then worked down to the road past the school house. Tied in to the school house and then came home. There was a dance at Aggt but we had some toffee instead. 10:10.

Ran line from the fence post on the road to edge of river to sta. 42. In eve. we figured out the str. line. Turned in at 10:20.

I went to the logging camp and got Harry Michelson to help us. We ran the str line to the river edge from the fence post on the road and then quit. In at 9:30.

Ran the line from the edge of the river to the road by the 1st bridge. This was pretty tough and the logger was ready to quit. From here we rode home on milk wagon. Turned in at 9:30.

Ran line from road past school house up to the station at the 1st bridge. There we walked down and tied in to the quarter corner at station 43 & 85. There is a log across the river at sta. about 41 along the hill side. Continued line at fence and tied in at 1/4 corner.

Packed up at Salzer’s and phoned for car. Got in Chehalis about 1:00. Had dinner and went to Post Office. In the eve did a little drawing and wrote ECM then turned in room #7 about 11:00 after phoning R.

Up at about 8:00 and went to City Hall after breakfast. Pa went to Cen in mooring and I did a little drawing on Sec 35 and 26 also a tracing of the Cen line from sta. 63 and 79 to intake. Went to Cen. in Eve and heard the Cen. & Cheh. debate with R.M. Talked a little and took car home. Fine time. 11:30.

Fixed things up around the Hotel. Then went to the City Hall and did drawing without dinner until supper time. In eve walked around a little then phone R.M.- at BB game. Wrote to A.B. and M.J. then turned in.

Had breakfast about 9 AM then went to office agn. Call up R.M. at 10:AM but she was at church, called agn at 11:30 & had much success. Went to Cen on 2:00 car & after having a little chat went to show. Went back to R.M.’s & got warm, then to Cen Hotel for dinner. Dandy time. Home on 10:30P.

Went from office & ran line 1606’ fr. 3rd & Market to reservoir site. Got home about 4:00 & plotted it up while Pa was at Commissioner’s meeting. Wrote a letter & then turned in about 10:00 PM

Worked at office a little in morning then we took Ford to Salzer’s at 2:00 PM to fix up a few right of ways. Got things fixed up with Salzer, Hays & Bogard & reached town at 7:00PM after having a little trouble with car.

Up at 8 AM but not much doing. Stayed around office all day. Pa went out with Commisioner Del to see Mr. Marpland & the man had some trouble with the car, so they cam in late. T.I. 9:40

At office at 8:30 AM made drawing of City Park or reservoir site. Went to train as Pa went to Seattle. After supper got a shave & then went to Cen. Rita disn’t seem to be feeling any thing extra so stayed in and had a warm talk. 5¢ on the car so ran, got there 9 min ahead. T.I 11:15.

Got up a little late & took a short walk around the town after breakfast. After dinner went to Centrail, went to show then took a walk & went to the library. Met train after having supper at R’s, no use. E.M. on 6:30. F.T.

Up at 5:40 & had breakfast with ECM & Pa at 6:30 Took auto stage to Forest at 7:30. Ran line 8700 ft. to road this side of Forest. Caught stage for Chehalis at 6:40. After supper ran down to Garbe [Jorbe?] with Clar. Very tired after a hard days work.

Got out about 8 AM went to office then to Sunday School at 1st Christian & met a few fellows. Walked around town a while with Clarence & Higgerman & then went to Cen. on 1:30 PM car. Went out for a fine walk to Chehalis R & the block House (1859). In eve. went to Hotel for dinner & then to show. Home on 10:30 with Dr. S. Dandy time.

Stayed around office all day while E.M. was up on hill & Pa went out to Forrest in Hup. He came back at 7:30. E.M. & I went down st. & saw Dr. Sullivan at the hotel. Turned in about 10:00 PM.

We all worked at the reservoir site in the morning. In the afternoon made a map of the in-take location & then got things ready to leave early in morning. Went to show with E.M. & wrote R.M. T.I 10:20.

Got up at 6:10 & had breakfast about 6:30 & then we (3) with Mitchell & Mr. Vogelesburg took the Charmers for the intake camp. Worked hard all day at in-take & got back at 9:00 P.M. very late & very wet & tired. T.I. 10:30.

Went to Church in A.M. & then took a walk down town. After dinner went to Cen. on 1:33 when I met Dick Deutscher & Dunaway with the “U” B.B. bunch. Went out for walk with Rita & then we went to Chehalis where we met Clarence & went to the Minstrel Show. Very pleasant time. Home on same car 10:30 turn in.

Worked on paving district at Prindle & N.P. tracks & ran level W. on Prindle. Had dinner at Commercial Hotel. In evening was around Hotel & turned in about 10:30 PM.

Put in some grades in the morning & made map in afternoon. Phoned R.M. & went over to game at 7:30 PM. Rita certainly was very kind as she gave me the box of candy. She was very hoarse & even then the game was against her.

Arose at 7:30 but only read papers in morning. Went to Cen on 3:00 o’ck car. Took short walk & then had supper at Rita’s. It was certainly dandy and we had some fun in washing the dishes. I was thinking abt. Rita’s cold when walking to car & so just missed it. Hope she is well soon. T.I. 11:00

Went to Sunday school with Amory but did not stay long as the class didn’t meet. In afternoon we went out in an Oakland auto for a little ride & then we walked around a while. In Eve. Am & I went to Heinerich’s & played pool but we got home at 9:00.

Worked on car all day. In Eve. went with Amory to Hemrick’s house where we played pool until 10:10 PM. Took car and got home at 10:40PM. Dr. Baker fixed my tooth a little at 1:20 but it only took him about 3 minutes.

Got Flanders ready for trip to Chehalis & left Seattle at 9:00 AM. Got on closed road & it was 50 min. before we got into Tacoma. Left Tacoma about 1:20 & had a slow but sure trip as it rained all the time. Stopped in Cen. & saw Rita a min. which was the best on of the day. In Chehalis at 7:00 PM. T.I. after Choire practice which was 11:00 PM.

Got up rather late & worked on res. all day without any dinner. In Eve. we went down to the hotel and also saw the Garage man. T.I. 10:00 PM

Ran levels over the tunnel for the reservoir. In afternoon we went to the Pipe factory and after that we worked at office. T.I. 10:00 PM

Worked in office in the morning but after dinner got car ready and left for Salzer’s. Worked on line until about 7:00 P.M. In eve. we had some fun at Salzer’s playing the piano etc. T.I. 10:15 PM

Got out early about 7:30 and worked from Centralia line down. We work late & I felt like beating it for towns the levels were run to sta 118. Had a little music in eve, but everybody went to the dance at Agot. T.I. 10:00 PM

Started out early 7:40 but this time we had dinner at Salzer’s & it was fine. I was wishing that I was in Centralia altho the weather was pretty bad. Had some singing in the eve & saw Esther Salzer 1 min T.I. 9:40 PM

Worked in the house most of the morning figuring out the cuts etc. After that we went over the line for a ways. Was pretty tired in eve so turned in about 10:00 PM. Was down to the camp. I saw Frank & the other fellows.

Fixed up a few cuts in the morning and then we went over the line from the River or sta. 90 A bunch of about 20 got to work on the line at the Guide Meridian dipping etc. Ran levels to st 172 & drove home at 7:30 Wrote R. in the eve. T.I. 10:10 PM

Worked in office all morning. In afternoon started work on the car & took the cylinders out. In eve went down to Choir practice. T.I. 10:20 PM

In morning went up and gave the tunnel man some lines & grades. Hole was about 25 ft dug. At 9:45 we started work on the car again & worked hard all day. Finished at 7:00 PM and went to hotel after supper. T.I. 10:10 PM

Worked on car and was out to intake with Mitchell. Last at 5:00. Pa went to Seattle in mooring. In eve. Clarence & I went to the church social & had a bear of a time, of course we got home a little late. Phoned Rita & later found that she came over to a dance on this nite??

Arose a little late & worked on car and around town all day. Went to Cen. on 7:30 car an was glad when I got there - why? It had been most 3 weeks. We talked while we walked & I found out a few things that seemed queer. T.I. 11:30 PM

Went to Sunday school as usual & stayed for church also. At 2:30 took the car and drove to Cen. Stayed around the house until about 4:00 when we went over to Leota’s where I met a few kids & we all raised a “rough house.” At 6:30 when R began to get supper our troubles began. 1,2,3,4 - Got the bus pointing hime after the movies at 10:30.

In morning at 9:30 we took the Flanders for the intake and looked over the line. 800 ft. of pipe was layer but it was going slow because of the water in the ditch across the swamps. Got in at 6:30 an saw Pa. In eve met some kids on the st. & then went to club. T.I. 10:30

Worked out on the line but came in a little early. Went to Centralia on 8:00 o’ck car. Rita was all dolled up in light green because she said so. We walked to the dance with Ruth & had a fine time but Rita did something that I wouldn’t think she would do?? Walked home with Dorrie!

Got up in time to miss breakfast but went to church & Sunday school. Went to Centralia with Louie at 2:10. Rita & I took a little ride out to Lincoln Creek. In eve. we met Dr. & at 6:00 we had some ‘strawberry shortcake.’ R. tried to pick a scrap with me but nix tun. Dr. & I for Chehalis at 11:00.

We took Ford from St. Helen’s to Mr. Salzer’s place 18 mi. out. We then made a line to the river from the Willamette Meridian. Came home very wet and turned in at 9:30.

I went to the logging camp and got Harry Michelson to help us. We ran the str line to the river edge from the fence post on the road and then quit. In at 9:30.

Ran the line from the edge of the river to the road by the 1st bridge. This was pretty tough and the logger was ready to quit. From here we rode home on milk wagon. Turned in at 9:30.

Ran line from road past school house up to the station at the 1st bridge. There we walked down and tied in to the quarter corner at station 43 & 85. There is a log across the river at sta. about 41 along the hill side. Continued line at fence and tied in at 1/4 corner.

Went to Cen. in Eve and heard the Cen. & Cheh. debate with R.M. Talked a little and took car home. Fine time. 11:30.

Worked at the office all day. Very busy time all day as the commission held meeting at the office & there were about 10 peo. around there all day. Didn’t feel any thing extra so turned in at 10: PM.

We all worked at the reservoir site in the morning. In the afternoon made a map of the in-take location & then got things ready to leave early in morning. Went to show with E.M. & wrote R.M. T.I 10:20.

Got up at 6:10 & had breakfast about 6:30 & then we (3) with Mitchell & Mr. Vogelesburg took the Charmers for the intake camp. Worked hard all day at in-take & got back at 9:00 P.M. very late & very wet & tired. T.I. 10:30.

Went to Church in A.M. & then took a walk down town. After dinner went to Cen. on 1:33 when I met Dick Deutscher & Dunaway with the “U” B.B. bunch. Went out for walk with Rita & then we went to Chehalis where we met Clarence & went to the Minstrel Show. Very pleasant time. Home on same car 10:30 turn in.

Worked on paving district at Prindle & N.P. tracks & ran level W. on Prindle. Had dinner at Commercial Hotel. In evening was around Hotel & turned in about 10:30 PM.

Up at 7:30 & work around town, but Clarence & Pa went up the line with Mitchell. Went to B.B. game with E.M. & met Rita. Rita went home very hoarse as she yelled in vain. Game ended 47-9. Got home fr. Cen. on 10:30. Dandy time & box candy coming.

Put in some grades in the morning & made map in afternoon. Phoned R.M. & went over to game at 7:30 PM. Rita certainly was very kind as she gave me the box of candy. She was very hoarse & even then the game was against her.

Arose at 7:30 but only read papers in morning. Went to Cen on 3:00 o’ck car. Took short walk & then had supper at Rita’s. It was certainly dandy and we had some fun in washing the dishes. I was thinking abt. Rita’s cold when walking to car & so just missed it. Hope she is well soon. T.I. 11:00

Worked on car all day. In Eve. went with Amory to Hemrick’s house where we played pool until 10:10 PM. Took car and got home at 10:40PM. Dr. Baker fixed my tooth a little at 1:20 but it only took him about 3 minutes.

Got Flanders ready for trip to Chehalis & left Seattle at 9:00 AM. Got on closed road & it was 50 min. before we got into Tacoma. Left Tacoma about 1:20 & had a slow but sure trip as it rained all the time. Stopped in Cen. & saw Rita a min. which was the best on of the day. In Chehalis at 7:00 PM. T.I. after Choire practice which was 11:00 PM.

Stayed around the house until about 4:00 when we went over to Leota’s where I met a few kids & we all raised a “rough house.” At 6:30 when R began to get supper our troubles began. 1,2,3,4 - Got the bus pointing hime after the movies at 10:30.

Took Mitchell, Brunswick & Reynolds to the job. Ran some line after that & left for Centralia at 5:00 PM. Got in at 6:05 & did by some effort manage to get the 7:00 PM car. R. was dolled up like a Queen. Saw Dr. & all the kids. Dandy time.

Out on line in morning & worked on car in afternoon. At almost 7:00 Clarence gave me the card saying that Rita was going away. I didn’t expect it until Sat. so I was in a hurry to reach Cen. which I did a little after 9:00. I could hardly leave. 2:00 A.M. train home.
